Walking Bannockburn: Where Scotland’s Fate Was Sealed

The two days that changed Scotland forever—23rd & 24th June, 1314. Louise and I walked the hallowed grounds where Robert the Bruce secured his kingship, routing Edward II’s army despite overwhelming odds—8,000 Scots against 20,000 English. This was Bannockburn, one of the most defining battles in Scottish history.

Standing there, gazing across the lush green fields, it was impossible not to imagine the chaos, the courage, and the sheer willpower that unfolded on this very land. These grounds, now peaceful and serene, were once soaked in the blood of my ancestors. The thought sent a shiver through me.

As someone who has Braveheart firmly in my top five movies of all time, today was something else entirely. This wasn’t Hollywood. This was real. The battlefield stretched before me, and I could almost hear the distant clash of swords, the roar of warriors fighting for their land and freedom.

I literally had tingles standing there, looking over the fields where it all happened more than 700 years ago. And then, without warning, the emotion overtook me—tears just started falling. It was the most surreal, overwhelming experience, standing in the place where history was made, where a nation’s fate was forged in fire and blood.
