Fun Tech Stuff for November
November 11th, 2008

I’m going to try and post some fun tech gadgets I’ve played with or am playing with recently and give a little write-up of each.

Lately I’ve been a bit more obsessed than normal with trying to get all the stuff I like to look at on one page. This could be via iGoogle, MyYahoo! or whatever. I’ve also been doing some web work for my cricket club and am back in that mode of making sure the site looks the same cross-browser.

Google Maps Street View
August 7th, 2008

Has finally made it to my neck of the woods. I’ve played with it before; it was released in the USA in 2007 for only a handful of major cities. It was fun to “drive” around places I had never been before but I have to say it’s even more fun to “drive” around places I have been. I’ve already taken a peek at past houses I’ve lived in, schools and even the McDonalds I worked at as a teenager.

And I am looking now at the house I live in. When I spin around, the boy across the street is mowing his lawn.

The petrol price debate
May 30th, 2008

Time to get it right; just did the maths. Had a nice debate about fuel costs with one of the engineering guys Bryan, he’s driving to Austin Texas to live there (and working remotely like I do). Fuel price came up…

Outside right now it is $4.11 a gallon

We are paying $5.67 a gallon in Australia if it’s $1.50 a liter, which is roughly what it’s been hovering around. If the US dollar is what it is now then yes, we pay a lot more in Australia.

Number Three
August 29th, 2007

We’ve been planning to have a third child, Jenifer researched quite heavily what it takes to have a girl since we have two boys. I won’t go into the details because we don’t even know that it worked and it’s a bit TMI I reckon. :) Jenifer took some pregnancy tests that returned favourable results but I was skeptical so she made a visit to the doctor and it became official!

The boys are clearly excited as they blurted it to our neighbours across the street before we could let them know. “My mum is pregnant!”

Funny moment of the day
July 23rd, 2007

Funny is when Visual Studio crashes and upon detecting that something went wrong asks me if I want to launch Visual Studio to debug the problem I just had…

For those of you not in the know its Microsoft’s flagship software development product for computer programmers. It centers on an integrated development environment which lets programmers create standalone applications, web sites, web applications, and web services that run on any platforms supported by Microsoft’s .NET Framework (for all versions after 6). Well so says Wikipedia.
