Liam goes to school
by Mike250 on January 31st, 2008 in Family

Well the house is a bit quieter now since our youngest, Liam, has joined his brother at school. We’re so used to having Liam around the house; he’s always colouring or drawing something so I guess I won’t have to invest in paper afterall. He’s proud to be following his brother through the same gates at school while wearing the same colours. Liam has truly been looking forward to this for some time. I have no doubt that he is going to excel in his schooling.

    Good times ahead :)

I had an epiphany (I guess you could call it that) while we were at the Orange County Fair the other weekend. It was $1-ride day so the kids went on several rides, and then they saw “Adventure Island” or something like that. It wasn’t much more than the climbing gyms you often see in McDonalds and Burger King. They climbed a cargo net, went across a rope bridge, down a slide into a ball put, through some large boxing bag-type obstacles,, up another cargo net and down another slide and that was pretty much it. Then they’d go back in again, for another $1 of course.

I was watching them and thinking “Of all the rides they could go on, they want to play in this thing.”

Then I had my epiphany. As I watched the kids play I thought back to my own childhood days and I realized it wasn’t about what rides the kids went on, or didn’t go on. They were at the Fair and playing, but they were doing so much more than that; they were building memories. Some time in the far off distant future they’ll look back and remember these times and smile.
