Are you going poop or pee?
by Mike250 on August 14th, 2007 in Family, Funny

I have a few updates to come over the next few days as frankly I haven’t been in the mood to write. Having writers block or writers I-can’t-be-stuffed doesn’t end my personal obligation to update friends or family; nor does it end the adventures we have daily. I go through phases, or stages, and one recently has been trying to put together one of the more kick-arse mySpace layouts out there.

I’m working from the couch because I wasn’t in the mood to work from my smallish and dark office today. I wanted big windows and sunlight. It’s just gone 5pm and the sun is almost extinguished so Jenifer decided it was time for Liam to clean up his Lego that’s all over the living room floor. He took it upon himself to take his sweet time so Jenifer finally said something to the effect of going to the bathroom and when she gets back the floor had better be clean.

Without skipping a beat Liam replied, “Are you going poop or pee?”

Immediately I started giggling from my spot on the couch. A kid guaging how much time he has to clean by his own adjudication of how long it takes to do your business. Classic! I grabbed the camera, snapped and decided to write. Yay for you.

Finally, what would a post of mine be without some ludicrous change of subject? I was trying to come up with a better way of saying “Liam replied without wasting time” so I checked MS Word 07 Thesaurus on the word “Wasting”. It likens it to “homicide, manslaughter, assassination, killing, slaying, unlawful killing, contract killing, slaughter and massacre“. Great, I can see Google referring a bunch of would-be assasins to my page now… Wasting. Funny. I reckon it’s correct to link these words if in conjunction with say, Halo, Quake, World Of Warcraft and a whole host of other first person shooters. And before I hear comments regarding WOW not being an FPS, try Battleground or Arena sometime. It’s about as good as it gets.

I’d agree that WoW PvP can be pretty frantic, but even when zoomed in to First-Person perspective I don’t think it qualifies as an FPS. Or if it is, it’s an FPS with a huge margin-for-error built in.

Look at the Doom and Quake series, and especially CS and it’s spin-offs. Pointing your weapon in the general direction of your opponent was not sufficient to hit them, you still needed to get your targeting reticle almost right on your opponent if you wanted to hit them.

Looking at WoW you could argue that you still need to be facing your opponent in order to hit them (or you get that annoying “You are facing the wrong way” message), and so it is an FPS, but the margin for error is so huge that if your opponent is in front of your avatar, as inscribed by a whopping great 180-degree arc, and within weapon range then you can hit them.

It is PvP, and it does take some skill, but I don’t believe it’s an FPS.

Bah! Third Person Shooter then. Yes it’s somewhat more unusual to look at the world with just your gun showing but back yourself up into the corner of the flag room in Warsong Gulch and suddenly you are in FPS mode.

You can hit them only if you target or select them, so it’s not as simple as saying, “Hey whatever is in front of me I automatically hit.”

For me as a Hunter, it’s pretty critical to tab cycle to the enemy I want to cause damage upon, and it’s also critical to decide which range of weapon I am going to use. I want to make sure to never hit a pet because that’s an utter waste of my mana shots. A good player will crowd me so I have to be quick to select the appropriate player and make a split second decision to cast scatter shot or lay a trap and backup if I can. If I am screwed I typically lay a fiery trap and try and take as many of them bastards with me… :>

In many FPS games it’s all splash damage anyway, where you aim in the general vicinity of a group of players and take them down because you are uber powered up. Don’t get me wrong - some of my funnest days playing video games were back in my Counter Strike and Deathmatch Classic heyday.

Question for you Cap’n: What mods, if any, do you use?

Yeah, I’d be inclined to go with Third-Person Shooter.

My UI is the bog standard WoW UI, and most of my AddOns are solo or PVE beneficial, like Titan, Atlas, Gatherer, Auctioneer, etc.

The one thing I perhaps do different with my Hunter is the way I’ve set up the Hotbars 1 & 2, and even then it’s probably not an unusual thing to do.

Hotbar 1 is my all-purpose Solo/Raid/PvP (ranged) bar.

Hot bar 2 looks almost the same, but with a few keys/spells that I rarely use for PvE, like Scattershot, Wingclip, and Raptor Strike. I never learned Mongoose Bite because in my opinion, if I’m in Melee waiting to Dodge so I can use Mongoose Bite, I’m doing something wrong. And Dodging against a Warrior with Imp. Overpower is not a good thing, so the less time I’m in Melee the better.

Basically I have Hotbar 1 up almost all the time, except when someone gets up in my face. A flick of my mousewheel brings up Hotbar 2 and puts Wingclip and Scattershot under my fingertips allowing me (hopefully) to get back out to Ranged where I can continue shooting and do what Hunters do best.

I’m sure there’s Mods out there that would make PvP Hunting a lot easier, but even though I enjoy it I’m not a seriously hardcore PvPer so I haven’t tracked anything down.
